This supermarket cheese has a better composition than Cancoillotte (one of the lowest calorie cheeses!)

Certain supermarket products are sometimes victims of misconceptions. This is particularly the case for this famous cheese, which has a better composition than cancoillotte.

Knowing how to analyze supermarket product labels can sometimes avoid many surprises! While we think certain products are bad for your health, they actually have a completely correct composition and are sometimes victims of false preconceived ideas. This is what explains the dietitian @claire.happydiet on its social networks, by analyzing the composition of two very popular cheeses.

The Babybel have a cleaner composition than the Cancoillotte!” explains the expert who then analyzes the composition of these two products. While Babybel contains only pasteurized milk, salt and coagulating lactic ferments, Cancoillotte contains a food additive.

Babybel healthier than Cancoillotte?

By analyzing the composition of Cancoillotte, the dietician raises the fact that this cheese contains cast iron salts : “It is a food additive that allows cheese to maintain a homogeneous texture. We find a lot of it in food, especially in children’s cheeses.”.

Cast iron salts, which constitute a cardiovascular risk factor, come in different forms: citric acid (E330), sodium citrate (E331), potassium phosphate (E340) and polyphosphate (E452). Only the last is not allowed in the composition of food for children under 3 years old.

Monitor the composition of supermarket cheeses

When buying your cheeses at the supermarket, it is therefore interesting to monitor the presence of these melting salts in the composition of the products. Obviously, in food, everything is a question of balance and dosage, and nothing prevents you from consuming these industrial cheeses occasionally. Good news for Babybel, you can eat it without risk, every day if you want!

@claire.happydiet More details on cast iron salts⤵️ ➡️Citric acid (E 330) ➡️Sodium citrate (E 331) ➡️Potassium phosphate (E 340) ➡️And polyphosphate (E 452) can be used as salts of cast iron melting. ⚠️👶The latter is not authorized by the regulations for foods intended for children under 3 years old.👶⚠️ They are sold in different forms and combinations depending on their uses. ❤️‍🩹Polyphosphate (E452) and potassium phosphate (E340) and by extension phosphates constitute a cardiovascular risk factor, particularly in cases of kidney failure. ↘️Its admissible daily intake has been revised downwards since 2019 ⚠️It could be exceeded in children and adolescents who consume a lot of industrial products which contain it (industrial bakery/pastry products, certain cheeses and meats/charcuterie) ➡️ It is appropriate so not to worry too much about moderate consumption within a balance but to remember precisely the importance of this moderation and this balance to ensure our health and especially that of our children 🙏 And we read well the labels because some brands only use citrate which is ok and no longer use phosphates 😉 Did you know that?
