“This word gives me hives”

This Tuesday, November 8, a new episode of Meghan Markle’s podcast, Archetypes, was streamed on Spotify. But according to her, this word actually hides another meaning… In the episode entitled To “B” or not to “B” (B being the abbreviation of the word “bitch”, meaning s***pe in French, editor’s note), Meghan Markle explains that the word “difficult” actually means “s***pe”. “What these people are implying when they use that very loaded word is that this woman, ‘she’s difficult’. Which is actually just an understatement or probably isn’t even an understatement. It’s really a code for the word s***pe” she explained. And to add about the word “difficult” used as a way to describe women: “My friend said to me, there’s a certain point when you accept the fact that not everyone is going to like you. The goal is not for everyone to like you, the goal is for them to respect you“.

The daughter-in-law of King Charles III hates the word “s***pe” so much that she forbids herself to pronounce it. “This word gives me hives“, she confided. “As you may have guessed, I have no interest in using that term. But these women that I respect, whose work I love, a lot of them are completely comfortable with it. They use it to take the power away“, also explained Meghan. Because indeed, for this podcast, she exchanged with accomplished women who have no problem playing with words, such as Mellody Hobson, the president of Starbucks and the wife of the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas.
