Thousands of applications open – landlords are waiting for help from the first lockdown

“How quickly the financial aid will actually be paid out remains to be seen.” That is what the “Krone” wrote in February of this year about the promised Corona compensation for Salzburg’s private room landlords. The fears were confirmed, thousands of those affected have not yet received a single cent.

Ingrid S. can no longer. The Flachgauerin rents private rooms and faces a highly uncertain future. “The pain threshold has been reached and the cancellations are piling up again,” she says. The forced closure in what is now the fourth lockdown hit S. hard. And much worse: like many professional colleagues, she is still waiting for the promised aid payments from the first lockdown in spring 2020. “I didn’t even get an answer that my application was received,” says the Flachgau native. And: “Filling out the application was totally complicated – you can’t do it alone.” According to the Ministry of Tourism, there are currently almost 19,000 unprocessed applications from landlords. However, around 51,000 applications were submitted. “Four out of ten applications have not yet been answered. That is a complete declaration of bankruptcy ”, says Herman Wielandner, managing director of the Salzburg trade association.
