Haseloff explains the cryptic "Ä" tweet
A hidden message? An assessment of the corona situation? With a single "Ä" posted, Saxony-Anhalt's Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff caused a stir on Twitter. The CDU politician now explains that the explanation for the tweet is much simpler.
A tweet lifts Saxony-Anhalt's Prime Minister to previously unimagined Twitter heights. His tweet collects more than 15 thousand likes with just one "Ä". In the "Bild" newspaper, the CDU politician explains how his greatest Twitter success came about. So he started to write a tweet on Thursday evening when the phone suddenly rang. During the conversation with Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Social Affairs, Petra Grimm-Benne, the Twitter app was still open and he then made the puzzling "Ä" tweet with his ear.
So there is no hidden message behind it, as has been puzzled in the social networks. The "Ä" also caused a lot of malice and peaks from political competitors. Others made references to art and culture. "Definitely his best book", commented one user and tweeted the cover picture of the book of the same name by Max Goldt. Another wrote: "Well, I think it's cool that Mr. Haseloff is so unreservedly committed to the best band in the world!". The doctors from Berlin, described by themselves and their fans as the best band in the world, like to use the Ä in word games and merchandise products.
Two days ago Haselloff himself quickly commented on his mistake. "What a randomly sent individual letter generates interesting reactions," he tweeted a good half an hour after the "Ä" posting and put a winking smiley behind it. Unlike former US President Donald Trump, he did not delete his slip-up tweet. In May 2017 Trump had tweeted "Despite the constant negative press covfefe" (German: Despite the constant negative press covfefe) and then quickly deleted it.
