Three and a half years imprisonment – Helper in bank robbery convicted after 17 years

In September 2004 two men attacked a Raiffeisen bank in the Tyrolean Oberland. One could be caught immediately, but the other still not. For one of their helpers, the escape came to an end in May of this year. Now he has to go behind bars.

Armed with motorcycle helmets and gas pistols, the two bank robbers stole 18,605 euros in 2004. In May 2021, one of her then accomplices was caught in Ukraine. For years he had been wanted with an international arrest warrant. Incidentally, he was registered in Moldova – collected under his own name. 1,500 euros Specifically, he was accused of scouting the area, procuring the escape motorcycle and acting as a watchdog. When the two perpetrators fell on the motorcycle, he brought one to safety in his vehicle. Before he could help the other one, however, he was caught. According to his own statements, he received around 1,500 euros for helping with the robbery. The now 41-year-old confesses to the crime and is sentenced to three and a half years in prison, the 1,500 euros he has to pay to the state of Austria. When asked whether he would rather serve his imprisonment in Austria or in Moldova: “Here! For me, a prison here is a hotel! “
