Ocean Winds and the Banque des Territoires have started the construction of three wind turbines that will float off the Mediterranean in 2023.
The project to build three floating wind turbines in the Mediterranean was approved on Thursday by Ocean Winds and the Banque des Territoires, with the aim of seeing them open at the end of 2023. “The final investment decision will make it possible to sign contracts with the main industrial and financial partners and to launch the construction phase of the project”, indicate the sponsors of this program in a press release.
The wind turbines, which will be operated for 20 years, “will alone cover the annual electricity needs of more than 50,000 coastal inhabitants, the equivalent of the city of Narbonne”, specifies in a press release Ocean Winds, a joint venture dedicated to the offshore wind farm owned by Engie and the Portuguese group EDPR.

These wind turbines will be installed in the Mediterranean, “more than 16 km” off Leucate in the Aude and Barcarès in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Under study since 2017, this project has already obtained authorization from the administrative authorities.
