Three gun homicides in one week in Martinique


A man was shot dead at his home overnight from Thursday to Friday in northern Martinique, bringing the number of gun homicides to three since May 5, AFP learned on Friday (13). May from concordant sources.

The victim, a 47-year-old man, received three bullets in the chest, according to firefighters, while he was in his house in Grand Rivière, an isolated town in the far north of the island. And Wednesday, May 11, in Marigot in the north of the island, a 38-year-old man was also fatally injured in the head in front of his home. Ongoing investigations will have to determine if these tragedies are linked, even if “the facts speak for themselves“, with attacks at home and bullets in the head, according to General William Vaquette, commander of the gendarmerie of Martinique.

From daybreak on Friday, the gendarmerie deployed a squadron and around thirty volunteers in the northeast of the island, where the facts are concentrated. Since January 1, 2022, eight people have been killed in Martinique.
