Did Tiger Woods drive recklessly? Could his accident have any legal consequences? The Los Angeles County Police Department will provide information.

The Tiger Woods (45) car accident is unlikely to have any legal consequences for the golf professional. As Sheriff Alex Villanueva made clear on Wednesday, the athlete could not be prosecuted because of the incident, as it was a "pure accident". Other vehicles were not involved in the crash in Palos Verdes, California, and passers-by were not harmed. Woods himself suffered several broken bones in the accident. He has already had an operation, is awake and responsive and is recovering in his sick room.

There is no evidence that Woods was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. However, if it were found that the athlete was distracted by his smartphone or otherwise when he lost control of the SUV, this would amount to an administrative offense. For this he could be prosecuted, clarified Sheriff Villanueva further. Still, he stated: "We are not considering a charge in this crash. It remains an accident and an accident is not a crime."
