Her friend had built up a community on TikTok, but neglected the relationship: It made a young woman so angry that she presented the reality behind his posts to her partner’s followers.

The fact that everything that can be read and seen on the Internet is far from correct has long been general knowledge – or at least it should be. Many influencers, however, have raised self-portrayal on the Internet to another level in recent years: They present their lives online without their followers being able to know what the reality behind them really looks like. The girlfriend of an aspiring TikTok user also had this bitter experience.

She told her story on the Reddit platform. The woman, who claims to be 20 years old, has been in a relationship with a 21-year-old man for two years, who has built up a reasonably large following on TikTok. Her friend has become more and more successful with short videos on the app, she reports. What started out as a hobby, however, took more and more of his life – also because he set himself big goals. He really wanted to break the 100,000 follower mark.

Influencer brags about their relationship on TikTok

In addition to his studies, her boyfriend invested up to six hours a day in creating and editing the videos. Since his girlfriend works during the day, the two could hardly spend any time together. That alone made the author of the post sad, but what she saw on her boyfriend’s account annoyed her. He had uploaded a video showing his typical daily routine.

The clip was “pretty accurate”, writes his girlfriend, but presented reality in one point: From 4 to 8 pm he would spend time with his girlfriend. “That hurt me a bit,” the woman wrote on Reddit. “To be honest, I can’t remember the last time he spent more than half an hour with me. Not to mention four hours.”

Girlfriend’s revenge costs a lot of followers

So she came up with a plan of revenge – and wanted to beat her boyfriend at his own gun (read: a TikTok video). She created a clip herself, which was based on the video of her boyfriend, but in which there were numerous text messages with which he had put her off and put her off in the past few months. The plan worked: Many people saw your video, your boyfriend was sharply criticized by other users and lost a lot of followers.

Now the air is bad for the couple: Your boyfriend is really angry, the 20-year-old reports, she should have talked to him first. In her defense, she claims that she was angry that her boyfriend “used” the relationship to score online with his community: “In real life, he put no effort into the relationship.” Nevertheless, she also has a bad conscience: “I feel guilty because I am the reason why he is losing followers. On the other hand, I believe that what I did was justified.”

The young woman now wants to know from the Reddit community whether she has behaved wrongly. In the forum, however, most users take their side. Her boyfriend lied for a little online fame and had to face the truth. And the Reddit users have another good piece of advice for the failed influencer: He should take a break from TikTok and spend some time with his girlfriend.
