TikTok: Video platform to be banned in the United States

Out for TikTok? "As far as TikTok is concerned, we are banishing it from the United States," said US President Donald Trump via the video app.

US President Donald Trump (74) has announced that he intends to ban the TikTok video platform in the United States. "As for TikTok, we are banning her from the United States," Trump told reporters on Friday night (July 31, local time), including "USA Today" reports. "I will sign the decision tomorrow," he announced.

Around 80 million users in the United States

The video platform of the China-based company ByteDance was recently criticized because ByteDance allegedly passes user data on to the Chinese government. The company denied the allegation. In the United States, TikTok was last reviewed by the Committee on Foreign Investment (CFIUS). Trump had issued a warning a few weeks ago that he wanted to ban the app to hold China responsible for the spread of the corona virus.

According to estimates, around 80 million Americans use the app, in which users can record short videos and publish them with background music. The app is said to count around one billion users worldwide. India already banned the video platform created in 2017 in June this year.
