New shade? No problem with washable tints. In front of the beauty shelf, however, the question arises: what is a tint, what is a permanent color?

What is a tint?

A tint is the easiest form of color treatment. No matter whether as foam, gel or fluid, it only colors the hair in the outer cuticle. Tints are ideal for experimenting with color, freshening up colored hair or deepening the natural tone. Whether red, brown, blonde or black: They are available in almost all hair colors. Lightening or covering gray hair does not work with it. In contrast to a real coloration, the color pigments of a tint dissolve from the hair after a few weeks. After six to nine washes, the tone will fade. In the trade you can recognize a tint by the label “Shelf life level 1”, “Level 1” or “Group 1”.

Hair dye: the right care

So that the tint lasts as long as possible, you should pay attention to the right hair care. This includes the use of a mild shampoos and regular use of one Conditioners. When buying the products, make sure that they are specially designed for colored hair. Incidentally, many manufacturers also differentiate between products for blonde, brown or red hair. If you want to freshen up the color in between, it is best to use a hair mask with color pigments. This means that the color can withstand more washes than usual.

Tint your hair yourself? This is how the color change works:

  1. The preparation: If you want to tint your hair yourself, the action should always take place in the well-lit bathroom. The best thing to do is to put on an old T-shirt, as beginners can get one or two blobs of color on it. You should also have the following things ready: disposable gloves, Plastic comb for evenly distributing the tint, Plastic hair clips (for clamping individual parts) and a clock. This helps to adhere to the time information in the package insert – and that is very important for a perfect look.
  2. Here we go: How to tint your hair step-by-step is often described exactly on the packaging of the product and can vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer. In general, however, the following applies: Wet your hair, rub it gently with a towel, Disposable gloves cover and distribute the color evenly from the roots to the tips. Whether you use your fingers or a comb is a matter of taste. Pin longer hair with plastic bobby pins.
  3. Also important: Do not throw away the gloves after applying paint. They are also needed when lathering at the end of the procedure. If the pair has become unusable, you can of course also use a second, new pair of gloves.

Tint: you should know that!

Hair tints that can be purchased in stores differ between soft tones, with the imprint “Durability level 1”, “Group 1” or “Level 1” and the intensive tints. These have the label “shelf life level 2”, “group 2” or “Level 2” and dye the hair permanently. Among other things, they contain hydrogen peroxide, so that their dyes not only accumulate, but can also develop and anchor in the hair. They will turn pale after 15 to 24 washes, but will not wash out completely. In other words, one approach remains visible. Anyone who wants to try out a new hair color and is still unsure should be careful with an intensive tint. Color accidents can only be concealed poorly.

But Intensive tints also have advantages: They have a gray coverage in the hair of up to 50 percent. The hair becomes two shades darker or lighter with it. By the way: Everything that bears the “Level 3” label is permanent hair color, so it belongs to the colorants and has to grow out. This also applies to them Herbal hair color henna.
