Microsoft will soon integrate a particularly useful (and practical) new feature.

Indeed, the Edge browser will soon be able to block the automatic playback of videos.

An option to block autoplay on Edge

On the Web (as on mobile), we are sometimes the unfortunate victims of a video played automatically because of the “autoplay” function. This phenomenon generally causes an instantaneous reflex to frantically lower the volume of his mobile / computer while feeling particularly embarrassed vis-à-vis the people around. To put an end to this latent anxiety, Microsoft will add a very useful feature to its Edge browser.

Indeed, Microsoft has started testing this new feature through the Canary channel. This is to provide an additional option on top of the current permission and limitation options for autoplaying videos on the web.

A request from Internet users

Microsoft says it has heard the complaints of its users, who asked for the possibility of setting a strict blocking of autoplay videos. The current “Limiter” function makes it possible to play media in autoplay “ based on how you visited the page and whether you interacted with any media in the past “. Not very clear, so…

The new feature will thus make it possible to block automatically, and in a systematic way, all the videos configured in autoplay on the Web. For now, the latter is reserved for the Canary channel, but it should be available to all Microsoft Edge users in the coming weeks.

Note that it is already possible to force the display of this new option on the consumer version of Edge, via “edge://flags/#edge-autoplay-user-setting-block-option”. Once the option is activated and the browser restarted, it will then be possible to strictly block automatic readings. Remember in passing that Microsoft Edge will soon include features dedicated to cryptos and NFTs.
