tobacconists who have suffered damage will be able to benefit from aid of 10,000 euros

The tobacconists victims, during the urban riots after the death of Nahel M., of damage and theft of their business which led to its closure for at least three consecutive days, will be able to benefit from a fixed aid of 10,000 euros paid by the State, according to a decree published Thursday, August 3 At Official newspaper.

To benefit from this exceptional aid, tobacconists must have “suffered damage, destruction, theft, during urban riots”during the violence “occurred between June 27 and July 5, 2023”, specifies the decree. Tobacconists will have to provide proof that their business has been closed for at least three days in a row.

Members of the National Confederation of tobacconists, which brings together some 23,300 traders, will be able to go through this professional union. Retailers in activity who are not members of a national professional union of tobacconists will have until September 15 to make a request to the General Directorate of Customs.

Over 500 tobacco shops damaged

According to the latest report from the Confederation of tobacconists, 545 tobacconists were damaged, including 64 establishments burned down and completely destroyed, a spokesperson told Agence France-Presse on Thursday, estimating “the loss ratio at more than 20 million euros”. This exceptional system is part of the 2023-2027 memorandum of understanding on support for the network of tobacconists, specifies the decree.

This Thursday, the minister delegate for public accounts, Thomas Cazenave, must go to Talence, accompanied by the president of the Confederation of tobacconists, Philippe Coy, to present this aid.
