Tocotronic: This is your song about the crisis

In the midst of the crisis, the Hamburg band Tocotronic gave their fans a new song including video: "Hope". The band writes on Facebook that, given the current situation, they have decided to pre-release the song they are currently working on. It also says that the song "should give hope in these dark days – exactly that". The lines of text read, among other things: "A small piece of lyrics and music against isolation".

As the band informs, the text of the song, which mainly consists of a repeating guitar and elegiac strings, is said to have been written a year ago. Nonetheless, it reflects "the despair at the isolation in which everyone is at the moment, in simple but forceful words". In the accompanying video, which appears to show current webcam images of the orphaned world, the lines of text stand prominently in yellow over the black and white images.

The song and video are already praised in the feature section. In the "Zeit" pop critic Jens Balzer describes the song as "the very best piece about the crisis that you could ask for". The video is called "sensational" by the art magazine "Monopol". Of course, Tocotronic does not speak of itself quite so haughtily. According to the Hamburg band, which now partly lives in Berlin, "hope" conjures up comfort and healing power "that can emanate from music and mutual cross-border solidarity". Finally, Tocotronic urge you to stay healthy and at home and share your support for the SeaWatch and MSF organizations.
