A terrible news item took place this Wednesday, June 7 in the North in the small town of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux. An 11-year-old boy died after being run over by a school bus.
Even if excessive or unsuitable speed is the leading cause of road accidents in France, the fact remains that terrible accidents can be caused without this criterion influencing the situation. This was the case this Wednesday, June 7 in the small town of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux in the North department. An 11-year-old schoolboy suffered and died after being run over by a school bus.
Unfortunately accidents involving a child are not so unusual as we saw in 2022 with two fatal accidents involving a tractor and children, a 4 month old baby and a 3 year old boy. An eleven-year-old middle school student who was cycling home around 12:30 p.m. fell off his bike into the bus lane. The boy then passed under the wheels of a school bus which did not have time to brake to avoid the accident. The information provided by our colleagues at France Blue was later confirmed by The Dispatch.

Bus driver taken to hospital
The boy was quickly taken care of by paramedics. More than six rescue trucks, firefighters, emergency workers, ambulances and a helicopter were sent to the scene to resuscitate the child. Unfortunately in cardio-respiratory arrest when help arrived on site, the eleven-year-old schoolboy could not be saved. He died before being transported to a hospital.
The driver at the wheel of the school bus is in a state of shock, having been unable to avoid the accident. She was taken to the Valenciennes hospital center in the North shortly after the events. Our condolences go out to the family and loved ones of this eleven-year-old boy.
