Tom Hanks: His grandchildren make sure that he "doesn't become too arrogant"

Among other things, Tom Hanks is grounded by his grandchildren. They are not interested in his Oscars, but in donated ice cream.

His fans have long known that Tom Hanks (64) is a relatively unpretentious Hollywood star. In an interview with "Bild am Sonntag", the two-time Oscar winner also reveals why this is so: "My family is careful not to become too arrogant." This particularly applies to his granddaughters Olivia (born 2011) and Charlotte (born 2013), who were not interested in the fact that Hanks had "a few Oscars on the mantelpiece". Rather, her grandfather was "especially good when he bought ice cream," joked Hanks. It also fits that the actor just posted a video on his 64th birthday that showed him having a dip in the pool.

"I wake up every day and feel blessed"

Because Hanks' new film "Greyhound" is not going to the cinemas because of the corona pandemic, but can now be seen on Apple TV +, it was also important to him to talk about the pandemic. He and his wife Rita Wilson (63) were among the first celebrities to be officially infected with the coronavirus for surviving Covid-19, and are grateful to him: "I wake up every day and feel blessed to be healthy and I'm sure, "he told the newspaper. Because he knows "what it feels like to be on the ground", the couple supports local aid organizations in the crisis.

For his new film project, for which Hanks also wrote the screenplay, the actor himself advertised on Instagram. As for the contribution that shows the cover of the script, he wrote that it was a long and arduous journey, "but here it is". At the bottom of the picture is a date that gives an indication of how long the trip actually took: The script is dated June 14, 2014.
