Tomorrow belongs to us: Emmanuel Moire opens up about Charlie’s departure

As part of CANNESERIES 2024, AlloCiné met Emmanuel Moire, who revealed to us the near future of his character and the development of the intrigues of “Tomorrow belongs to us”.

François (Emmanuel Moire) had a year particularly full of twists and turns in Tomorrow Belongs to Us.

Between the collapse of the Agnès Varda high school and his health problems, the writers of the TF1 daily soap opera spared nothing for the French teacher. Not even his love story with Charlie (Clémence Lassalas).

It must be said that this couple, very popular with the public, no longer had the same desires. If Charlie wanted to make a life in Canada and build a family with his partner, that was not the case for François. Refusing to be a burden for her, the latter then ended their relationship.

Today, François has turned the page and is now living a love story with Soizic (Charlie Nune), his ex-wife. But what does the future hold for him?

Met during the CANNSERIES festival, Emmanuel Moire spoke to Allociné about what awaits François during the next episodes.

Allociné: This summer marked by the departure of Clémence Lassalas and the end of the emblematic couple François-Charlie. Did you feel a pang in your heart when your playing partner left?

Emmanuel Moire : Yes and no because it is above all Clémence’s choice. She worked for many years on Tomorrow Belongs to Us and she wanted to tackle other projects. I didn’t really feel a pang in my heart because we didn’t miss out on what we should have done together. We never missed anything so we got to the end of it. And I also admit that perhaps this couple was going in circles a little. The heartache is not seeing her as much anymore and no longer laughing on set with her. But we see each other. If we miss each other, we see each other.

François is now living a love story with Soizic. Were you surprised that your character got back together so quickly with his ex-wife? Didn’t you feel like it was a little too fast?

Yes and to be honest, I spoke to the authors about it. Especially after the collapse of high school, the Charlie-François couple was even more touching. It’s true that very shortly after, I had to play cowardice and lies, a bit of everything we didn’t know about this man. That said, they flirt with chaos and the dark side of this character. Obviously, it created special things among the public. Despite everything, I find the Soizic-François rapprochement coherent because it is a couple who have been together and who know each other very well. We also understand why François got together with Charlie when we know that he was with Soizic. I find there is a consistency in the women in his life.

It’s a serious story between Soizic and François, could they consider marriage?

There will be a lot of waiting from Soizic. We can clearly see from the start that she came back to win back the man of her life. I think that for her, it is very important to go to the end. There is a possessive side to Soizic that François does not have. In fact, Francis loves people but he doesn’t need people to belong to him. And besides, that’s what was great about François and Charlie’s breakup. It’s because he loves her that he tells her it’s better that they separate. He understood that he would never give her what she wanted. I find it really cool that François considers that the people he loves don’t belong to him. And I think that there is also that with the François-Soizic couple. Marriage expectations are more on Soizic’s side.

So no desire for marriage for François?

I think he doesn’t care about that stuff.

The fact that François and Soizic are getting back together is also an opportunity for the screenwriters to consolidate the Lehaut family. What can we expect for this family in the coming episodes?

There has already been a lot written about this family. As I have double news at the moment with the release of my single, the authors are going to leave the Lehauts a little for the moment. All that happens is a lot more lightness and comedy to make viewers become even more attached to this family.

We will see a lot of the François-Soizic couple. They tickle each other, they bicker, they argue, they slag each other (laughs). We discover a new Francis. I think Charlie Nune is leading me there. It’s a pleasure to work with her. I’m having fun being smarter and more spicy in my game. I find it very interesting.

We see much less of François in his role as teacher. As there have been new arrivals at Georges Brassens with Mélody and Agnès, can we hope to see the teaching staff a little more in the spotlight?

It’s starting but I think it will mainly come back at the start of the school year to really formalize a slightly larger faculty.

François’ father made occasional appearances in Tomorrow belongs to us. Could he return to the series soon? Could we also envisage Soizic’s family arriving in Sète?

It’s not planned at the moment but it would be super interesting to see Soizic’s family. Regarding François’ father, I would love for him to come back. I love playing with Christian Vadim too.

Do you have any desires for François?

I find it really cool that the authors went far with the character of François and I went all out. What matters to me is to bring scale, sincerity and authenticity to things. I want people to believe it and make it credible. The character of François is very important to me. I liked that he lost his temper and that we didn’t recognize him. I like that it goes very deep into the emotional side. It’s the strength of the depth of what is to be played that matters to me.

At the same time, I would like there to be more things in high school and with teenagers. I like the idea that François transmits knowledge. I kinda miss playing that. I did it a lot when I joined the series and I found it very cool. I like words so I like doing it.

Do you have any other projects outside of the show that you can talk about?

I’m very happy to have taken advantage of these last few years to establish myself as the actor I was. It was really something important to me. I didn’t think I would do it on a daily basis but I’m delighted because I expanded my range of games. I was confronted with so many things that it really captivated me. But I missed music. It took me a while to have things to say and convey.

My new single “Be a Man” has just been released. I was impatient and excited. I believe in what needs to be done. Above all, it is the joy of reconnecting with the song, the audience and the scene that is about to happen. Its important to me. And then the song is different since I tell my stories, what I see, what touches me. This is who I am. It’s also important for me to express myself there. So I’m pretty happy.
