As Etienne’s mysterious past resurfaces, will William be there for his family? Kamel Bleghazi, the interpreter of the doctor at Saint-Clair hospital, tells us more about what awaits his character in “Tomorrow belongs to us”.
What is your assessment of William’s development since your arrival in tomorrow belongs to us ?
Kamel Belghazi: A very positive assessment. I am very happy with the way William is progressing. It is a joint effort between the scriptwriters, the dialogue writers, the production, the director and the actors. I think the character takes a good orientation. It happens to him a lot of adventures but beautiful things too. There are feelings, laughter and tears. It goes in a direction that I really like anyway.
The Dauniers were recently at the heart of an important intrigue surrounding the death of Régis (Francis Perrin). Were you surprised that the perpetrators killed William’s father?
Yes ! I did not expect that. You never expect the death of a character like that, especially since Régis had arrived a very short time ago. Afterwards, there are characters who are there to serve a plot. I don’t know if the writers know this in advance, but there is always this possibility for each of us. When a character comes to serve a plot and it is over, we can legitimately ask the question of its durability. There are two options available to the screenwriters: either we kill him or we make him leave. Sometimes the actor doesn’t want to anymore or maybe it’s done from the start.
We talked about it with Francis. He really liked his character and the series. If he had still been there, I would have enjoyed continuing to play with him. Afterwards, he is no longer there, that’s life. We’ve seen characters disappear in the series, that’s nothing new (laughs). It also opens up the field of possibilities for other stories.
Brigitte having escaped from prison, Catherine Jacob will she ever come back to the series?
No idea.
Aurora (Julie Debazac) and William went through a big crisis and almost ended their marriage for good. Luckily for us, the couple got a second chance. Do you think it was necessary to shake them up a bit?
Yes ! It’s like in life. What’s interesting is being able to act out things and have the characters experience situations that jostle them a little bit. In this case, we have seen that the Daunier couple was ultimately a fragile couple. Through this plot, we discover that a couple does not care much. However, we also realize that when a couple is solid and has common bases, it resists this kind of adventures.
Would you have liked this separation to last longer to see them evolve on their own?
It’s complex. It is true that we tell a lot but that we see things a little less. We see William leaving but we don’t see him living in his hotel room or his daily life. It would almost be a spin-off if we focused on that. It would take a lot of time and you can’t focus like that on two characters just because they’re separated. But yes, it might have deserved to be a little more extensive although it takes some material.
What awaits the Dauniers in the next episodes?
A lot of things are going to happen, especially a little dramatic and difficult. At the same time, there will be comedy with a great plot between William and his daughter. It’s gonna be fun. We had a lot of fun shooting this.
Etienne’s past (Patrick Guerineau) is about to reappear and Dorian (Rayane Huber) could be in danger during the next episodes. What can you tell us about this?
William is a doctor. He has the role of the savior (laughs). More seriously, William will be involved but in a peripheral way because it concerns the Curtis family more than the Dauniers. But as Bénédicte (Honorine Magnier) is William’s sister, he will inevitably be involved. Not directly, but enough. This is Patrick Guérineau’s first big storyline so it’s normal that it’s oriented around his character.
William and Bénédicte became very close following the death of their father. Can we hope to see them even closer with this plot?
Yes. They’re going to have a lot of supporting scenes. When something delicate happens in a family, it’s good to be able to rely on each other and Bénédicte relies a lot on her brother who is more and more present for her. It’s a bit the same kind of situation as the one we experienced with the disappearance of Régis. They had become very close during this period.
Saint-Clair Hospital is preparing to welcome two new doctors to its ranks with the arrival of Charlie Nune And Stany Coppet. Could these characters become William’s friends?
Yes. They have a vocation for that. There are characters who have left and others who have disappeared. Suddenly, the hospital, which is supposed to be a fairly important center of the series, found itself a little emptied of its substance and of the human relationships that existed, in particular the relationship between Samuel (Axel Kiener) and William. It was a very strong relationship. They were friends, confidants and neighbours. In short, they were very close. So at some point, a void was created. These new characters are likely to be brought in to fill that void. How and in what proportions? I do not know yet. We have to make the hospital live. In any case, the idea is to enrich relations and create new friendly poles with other doctors within the hospital structure.
Alexander Varga will he return to the series?
Yes, he will come back. I toured with him last week.
We thought we’d see you interact a lot more with the character of Naima Rodric now that Lisa is William’s neighbor…
True, but I think Lisa is much more absorbed in police investigations. But maybe it will come back.
It’s strange because sometimes we have the impression that they don’t know each other even though they are neighbors…
So that’s a real topic. I was confronted with this again yesterday or the day before because I was wondering if I should address a character as familiar or as you. We don’t really know which foot to dance on sometimes. It would be nice to clarify some things, I agree. This is a question that arose a lot with the character of Victoire (Solène Hebert). For a very long time, she was seeing me in the hospital when she was William’s best friend’s girlfriend.
What do you hope for William’s future? Do you have any special wishes for him?
I want him to do lots of things. Skydiving or going to the mountains. I would like us to see the Dauniers in different situations in fact. I know it’s very difficult to do in the dailies but it would be nice to get them out of Sète a bit. They live by the sea, they could go by boat. There are plenty of possibilities available to them but it is very difficult to do. We could lose them on a desert island in the Mediterranean (laughs). William needs to get out of his comfort zone and explore things we haven’t seen in his house yet. You have to tickle it a bit.
It would be nice if there was a catastrophe ark concerning the Dauniers…
William could save people and have heroic behavior. It is an idea. It would be good if we went in that direction.
