Tonight on Netflix: this animated film is one of the funniest ever made

(Re)discover “Shrek 2”, a hilarious sequel to the famous feature film produced by Dreamworks studios in the early 2000s, and available on Netflix.

After their wedding, Shrek and Fiona leave for a wonderful honeymoon, before returning to their beloved swamp. But when they arrive there, they are surprised to discover a royal invitation: sent by Fiona’s parents, who wish to see their daughter again and meet their son-in-law, she urges them to set off for the kingdom of Fort Fort Lointain.

At the end of this long journey, which Shrek and Fiona undertake in the company of the Donkey, they are received in a rather icy manner. Indeed, King Harold and Queen Lillian were far from expecting Fiona to have married an ogre, thus maintaining an ogre-like appearance herself.

The sovereign, who intends to reverse the situation and offer his daughter’s hand to handsome Prince Charming, then hires a formidable mercenary to get rid of Shrek.

Second opus of an indescribable saga which now has four (while waiting for a fifth, currently in preparation), Shrek 2 is very probably the most successful of all from the point of view of humor. Without for all that making the economy of a beautiful story and a touching romance, this sequel literally connects the visual gags, the intelligent references, the incisive replicas and the characters to die of laughter.

From its delightful introductory sequence (which successively parodies Spider-Man, The Lord of the Rings and The Sound of Music) to its conclusion, Shrek 2 hits the mark every 30 seconds, and skillfully manages to reuse the best ingredients of its predecessor to take them even further.

In addition to its villain – twice as funny as Lord Farquaad of the first film – this second installment presents us above all with a now emblematic character, and whose path has never left that of Shrek: the irresistible and hilarious Puss in Boots, with his two large imploring eyes.

If you were looking to spend an evening of relaxation and laughter in the company of your whole family, your program has been found!

What they will like:

  • The soundtrack and the many songs that punctuate the new adventures of Shrek: in bulk, we have for example Accidentally in Love, Holding Out for a Hero, funkytown or Livin’ la Vida Loca

Dreamworks Animation
  • All the excellent secondary characters, always present to accompany the adventures of the green ogre: the Donkey, of course, but also Tibiscuit, Pinocchio, the Three Little Pigs and the Wolf
  • Puss in Boots, of course! We certainly already talked about it earlier, but it is undoubtedly one of the greatest qualities of the film.

What might worry them:

  • Not much, except possibly the strange regulars who frequent La Taverne de la Pomme Poisonnée, a slightly grimy little bar where all the villains from fairy tales come to drink.
