Tonight on TV: far from the 20 million for Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis, this is Dany Boon’s only failure at the box office

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: the third collaboration of Dany Boon and Kad Merad.

When Dany Boon releases a new film, it is generally synonymous with (very) big success. From the unmissable Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis (20.4 million spectators) to Supercondriaque (5.2) via La Ch’tite famille (5.6) and RAID Dingue (4.5), the Frenchman makes almost always a fly. So when one of his comedies doesn’t cross the million admissions mark, it logically raises a little eyebrows, especially when it marks a new collaboration with Kad Merad!

This failure at the box office, still very relative (we are beyond 800,000 admissions!), is Life for real. Released in theaters last April, this comedy which Canal+ is broadcasting this evening tells the story of Tridan Lagache (Dany Boon), who spent his life at Club Med changing friends every eight days.

At the age of fifty, Tridan resigns from the Mexican vacation club where he was born, determined to reunite, 42 years later, with his great childhood love, Violette. He arrives in Paris, naive and lost but happy to be hosted by Louis (Kad Merad), a half-brother whose existence he did not know. To get rid of a cumbersome Tridan, Louis begs one of his conquests, Roxane (Charlotte Gainsbourg), to pretend to be Violette, whom Tridan thinks he recognizes at first sight.

“Making a film about a GO who leaves Club Med and shows himself to be totally unsuited to life outside is a fairly classic comedy that would not have lasted the length of a film. Once the scenes and the expected gags exhausted, we want to enter into a real story”says Dany Boon. “This is where I thought Tridan could set out in search of his childhood love. This little girl he met for a week during a summer but who marked his life forever… “

Little fun fact: like Dany Boon’s character, Kad Merad himself was a GO (“Gentle Organizer”) at Club Med! Specifically, the comedian was hired as a conductor in the ’80s to lead a musical group.

Tonight on Canal+ at 9:09 p.m.
