Tonight on TV: Gaspard Ulliel at the heart of the French Revolution

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Gaspard Ulliel, Adèle Haenel and Laurent Lafitte caught in the turmoil of the French Revolution.

Son of designers, Gaspard Ulliel was destined for directing before breaking into the camera in the early 2000s. On several occasions during his career, he distinguished himself in historical films: from the Pact of the Wolves to the Egarés, passing of course by A long engagement Sunday or Jacquou le croquant, but also The Princess of Montpensier, Saint Laurent, The Dancer and Just the end of the world.
In 2018, Gaspard Ulliel starred in four feature films, including the ambitious Un Peuple et son roi, retracing the French Revolution from 1789 to 1793. Alongside Adèle Haenel, the talented actor lends his features to Basile , a young revolutionary.

After Versailles and L’Exercice de l’Etat, director Pierre Schoeller continues to take an interest in political issues and social debate, but this time, by immersing himself in the past.

French blockbuster with a budget of almost 17 million euros, A people and their king mixes intimate narrative and large-scale fresco, based on an authentic reconstruction (the film is also nominated for the César for Best Sets and Best Costumes), in the service of an exceptional cast. We can notably mention Olivier Gourmet, Louis Garrel and Laurent Lafitte in the skin of King Louis XVI.
