Tonight on TV: Meryl Streep is the boss you never dream of having

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Meryl Streep is one of cinema’s greatest villains.

Newly graduated, Andrea arrives in New York and lands her dream job: assistant to Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of a prestigious fashion magazine. But she will quickly discover what the word “hell” means…

This is the summary of the novel The devil wears Prada written by Lauren Weisberger. Before it was even finished or released, 20th Century Fox rushed to acquire the rights. Published in 2003, this bestseller was brought to the screen three years later by David Frankel.

Worn by the talented Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep (here in a performance against the job rewarded with a Golden Globe), The Devil Wears Prada presents a disenchanted vision of these glamorous environments, where work relations are sometimes governed through intimidation, superficiality and complete lack of scruples.

Although it brought in “only” 124 million dollars in revenue on American territory (for a total budget of 35 million), the film enjoyed a real triumph abroad. In France, more than 2 million spectators went to see it in theaters. Since its release, The devil wears Prada has simply become cult.
