Tonight on TV: Steve McQueen has sworn revenge in this major but unfairly forgotten western

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: a cult western on the theme of revenge.

Released in theaters in 1966, Nevada Smith is one of those great, unfairly forgotten westerns that you should quickly take advantage of when a TV broadcast is coming up. Good news: this little classic led by Steve McQueen is available this Tuesday evening on C8!

Nevada Smith, it’s the story of Max Sand, a young cowboy on the trail of his parents’ murderers. Trained by Jonas Cord, an arms dealer, he became a skilled shooter and wielded the colt with precision. After several years of research under the name Nevada Smith, he will track down each of these three thugs in cities, saloons and even in prison. Without scruples for anyone, Max is determined to wreak his vengeance.

Big screen prequel to a passage from the novel The Carpetbaggers by Harold Robbins, the feature film Nevada Smith, directed by Henry Hathaway (100 Dollars for a Sheriff, The Crossroads of Death), is a nervous western on the theme of revenge. If we obviously remember the excellent performance of Steve McQueenthen crowned with the success of The Great Escape and The Cincinnati Kid, it is impossible to ignore those of Martin Landau, Arthur Kennedy and Karl Malden in the shoes of three truly rotten people.

George Lucas is a fan!

Nevada Smith was a great popular success with more than 2.3 million spectators in French cinemas. Proof that this western has made its mark, even among the greatest of the seventh art? A certain George Lucas being a fan of the film, the Indiana Jones adventurer he created in the early 80s was originally called… Indiana Smith!

Filmed in numerous locations in the eastern part of the Sierra Nevada, this Nevada Smith, it is almost a certainty, should not disappoint you if you are fans of westerns.

Tonight on C8 at 9:20 p.m.
