“Too dark for me”: this star refused the role of Superman

Playing Elvis Presley in the film “Priscilla” by Sofia Coppola, Jacob Elordi revealed that he refused to be cast to play Superman in the feature film that James Gunn is preparing.

Expected as Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s film Priscilla, which will be released in theaters on January 3, Jacob Elordi could have taken on another pop culture icon. At least if he had agreed to be cast to play the Man of Steel in the Superman: Legacy that James Gunn is preparing.

In an interview given to GQthe interpreter of Nate Jacobs in the series Euphoria reveals having been approached to, potentially, succeed Henry Cavill in the role: “I was asked to do a reading for Superman”explains the Australian actor. “But I immediately said, ‘No thanks.’ It’s too much. Too dark for me.”

We don’t know if the actor qualifies James Gunn’s future film as “too dark”, while its colorful logo announces a lighter tone. Or if it’s about the role itself. Still, David Corenswet can thank him, even if nothing says that Jacob Elordi would have triumphed. And the latter is clearly not about to play superhero.

Jacob Elordi as Elvis Presley

“I don’t particularly want to, no.”declares the one who does not hide his admiration for Christian Bale and Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. “I was always told to cut corners in my answers, otherwise I would annoy my agent. Like, ‘Anything can happen!’ Anything can happen, but at this point in my life, I don’t see myself being interested in it. I like doing what I would watch, and I tense up when watching these films.”

If Robert Pattinson proved that you should never say never, by becoming Matt Reeves’ Batman, Superman: Legacy will be released on July 9, 2025 in our theaters. Without Jacob Elordi but with David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific) and Anthony Corrigan (Metamorpho).
