Top 14: by hitting the draw against Stade Français, Toulouse consolidates its leading position

The Parisian club almost inflicted on the Haut-Garonne team its first setback of the season at home, but the championship leader was able to snatch a draw in the last minute (16-16).

A classico that will not go down in history. Stade Toulousain and Stade Français, respectively 1st and 2nd in the championship, left on a logical draw after an unspectacular meeting (16-16). Selevasio Tolofua (57th) and Paul Costes (79th) scored the two Toulouse tries, in response to that of Giovanni Habel-Kuffner (50th) for the Parisians. We were playing the 10th day of Top 14.

Pragmatic Parisians

Victorious at Ernest-Wallon last season, Gonzalo Quesada’s men almost did it again. Dominators in the conquest and occupation, they were in front at the break (3-6) thanks to a drop on the gong of Joris Segonds. It was the only thinning of a gloomy first act, poor in play, interrupted for six minutes by two activists who came to attach themselves to the poles.

Opposite, Toulouse struggled to exploit its possessions, notably losing four balls in touch. In this apathy, Theo Ntamack floated, improving most of the balloons he touched.

Diesel Toulousains

In the second half, the Rouge et Noir were caught on the counterattack by realistic Parisians, and Giovanni Habel-Kuffner was able to score his team’s only try (50th).

But the Stade Français did not manage to maintain their advantage until the end, partly because of too much indiscipline. Boosted by the support of its public and the entry of a new hinge Edgar Retière-Martin Page-Relo, Toulouse pushed until managing to register two tries. The first was scored by Selevasio Tolofua after a consecutive one-touch maul. The second is the work of Paul Costes, at the conclusion of a very fine collective action. On the conversion of the win, Edgar Retière found the post.

In the end, the result satisfies neither the Toulousains, who hoped to score an eleventh consecutive victory at Ernest-Wallon, nor the Parisians, who may have regrets after leading in the score throughout the meeting. All will probably have an eye on the performance of their French international teammates this Saturday evening against Australia.
