Top Gun: Maverick: Cinema release is a long time coming because of the corona crisis

The Corona crisis does not leave the "Top Gun" comeback untouched either: The continuation of the cult film from 1986 will not start in cinemas this summer as planned. As the US industry magazine "Variety" reports, the US theatrical release of "Top Gun: Maverick" is being postponed from June 24 to December 23 due to the ongoing corona crisis. The comeback of Tom Cruise (57, "Oblivion") as ex-ace pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell would have been seen in German cinemas from July 16. A similar postponement period can also be expected here.

In addition to the "Top Gun" sequel, Paramount has also given other films new launch dates. "A Quiet Place 2" was supposed to start last week, but has now been postponed to September 4 in the US. "SpongeBob SquarePants: A Sponge Tactical Rescue" will be moved from May 22nd to July 31st. "The Tomorrow War" must now clear its original date for "Top Gun: Maverick" on December 25th. There is not yet a new start date for the sci-fi film with Chris Pratt (40).
