The OnePlus 8T is an Android smartphone with a great price-performance ratio. With an excellent display, a powerful interior and a successful camera equipment, it is also a cheaper alternative to Apple's brand new iPhone 12.
It wasn't until the summer that OnePlus once again demonstrated with the mid-range champion North that it can manufacture smartphones with an extremely good price-performance ratio. Now the Chinese have presented the 5G-capable OnePlus 8T, which offers hardware for 600 euros that is otherwise only found in 1000 euros smartphones. This also makes it a tempting alternative to the iPhone 12 that Apple presented the day before.
Standard design, but still chic

OnePlus has not dared any major experiments with the design, the 8T looks like many other current Android smartphones. However, only the glass back is curved on the long sides towards the matt aluminum frame. The display is flat and does not distort any content at the edges. The OnePlus 8T sets accents especially in its chic aquamarine-green version.
The workmanship is very good, but the 188 gram device is officially not waterproof. According to OnePlus, the smartphone is sealed, but has not been submitted for IP certification – savings have to be made somewhere. As usual with OnePlus, the 8T has an extra button on the right side to set the device to silent or to vibrate. The smartphone has stereo speakers and supports Dolby Atmos, but it has no headphone jack in addition to the USB-C input.
Great display, high performance
OnePlus did not save on the 6.55-inch display with an integrated fingerprint sensor. It not only delivers crisp contrasts and realistic colors, but also offers a refresh rate of 120 Hertz (Hz) and can shine exceptionally bright with up to 1100 nits for an OLED panel. This means that the screen can still be read even in direct sunlight. The device automatically adapts the refresh rate to different scenarios in order to save power. For the same reason, the display only has a Full HD + resolution. With a pixel density of 402 ppi, it's nice and sharp.

However, the device does not have to be too economical with its resources, because its battery has a capacity of 4500 mAh. With moderate use, you can get over two days or you don't have to worry that your smartphone will run out of breath when you play on it.
You can also play demanding games, because with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, the OnePlus 8T is powered by a top chip that can access 8 or even 12 gigabytes (GB) of RAM. In addition, the device has a special cooling system so that it does not overheat during high performance. The strong inner workings are complemented by 128 or 256 GB flash memory, which is lightning fast with the current UFS 3.1 standard.

The charger of the OnePlus 8T also offers maximum performance of 65 watts. It can recharge an empty battery in around 40 minutes, but its electronics prevent the battery from becoming too warm and thus aging faster. Great: The power supply unit can also be used to charge laptops with a corresponding USB-C port.
Good camera equipment
On the back, the OnePlus 8T has a quadruple camera, with which the optically stabilized main camera with 48 megapixels is particularly impressive. It delivers beautiful photos with lots of details, good colors and contrasts, day and night. The wide-angle camera also cuts a fine figure with videos and can even film people with artificial bokeh.

The super wide-angle camera also takes good pictures with 16 megapixels, but weakens a bit at the edges. The 5 megapixel macro camera is a nice addition, but it doesn't really get into close range. The 2 megapixel monochrome notch only provides depth information.
Current software
A big plus is the tidy software of the OnePlus 8T, which, apart from a few useful additions, corresponds to Google's Android. And after the new Pixel Duo, the device is the first smartphone to hit the market with Android 11. OnePlus also promises two major updates to the operating system.
With 128 GB of flash memory and 8 GB of RAM, the OnePlus 8T costs 600 euros, with 256 GB / 12 GB, 700 euros. On the other hand, it offers excellent hardware that you won't find so quickly at these prices, especially the display is impressive. The iPhone 12 is more powerful and probably has better cameras, but its 128 GB version is also much more expensive at 925 euros.
