(Boursier.com) — Following the ScotWind call for tenders, the joint venture made up of TotalEnergies (38.25%), Green Investment Group (GIG) (46.75%), subsidiary of Macquarie, and RIDG (15%), Scottish developer in offshore wind power, obtained the concession for the N1 area to develop a 2 GW offshore wind farm. This project, called West of Orkney Windfarm, will be located 30 kilometers off the Scottish archipelago of Orkney.
This project, whose production of renewable electricity should begin by 2030, represents a potential investment of more than 4 billion pounds sterling.
As part of this development, the partners will invest £140 million (more than €160 million) to support the development of local supply chain capacities and in particular the improvement of port infrastructure in Orkney and the Caithness. This will ensure high local content and actively promote employment and innovation in the region.

The consortium has already conducted in-depth studies of the site, particularly in terms of the environment, to ensure that the project fully meets its objective of sustainable development. The consortium has also finalized a grid connection agreement with National Grid.
Once built, this wind farm will also be able to supply renewable energy to a green hydrogen production facility currently being studied at the Flotta terminal in Orkney.

The West of Orkney wind farm is the fourth major UK offshore wind project TotalEnergies has entered into since 2020. TotalEnergies holds stakes in projects under development and construction in the UK. These projects, which now represent a capacity of approximately 5 GW, will be commissioned between 2023 and 2030.
