A 24-year-old young man was arrested, then transferred to the psychiatric emergency room in Tours, after admitting the murder of his mother by strangulation, this Friday, February 4, 2022.
The victim’s body was “found in his room lying on the floor with a scarf tied around his neck”, the public prosecutor of Tours, Grégoire Dulin, told AFP, adding that the autopsy “confirmed a death by suffocation”.
“The main suspect was immediately taken into custody on the count of murder on an ascendant. Making inconsistent remarks, a medical opinion was sought from the psychiatric emergencies of the University Hospital of Tours, which deemed his condition incompatible with a police custody measure.
“He was hospitalized before his hearing could be carried out”, explained the magistrate in a press release.
The mother thought her son was ‘delirious’
A judicial investigation was therefore opened, and the continuation of the investigations was transmitted to an investigating judge.
According to the first information from the investigation, the young man first confessed his crime to his father, before the latter informed the police.
A few days earlier, the victim had meanwhile sent text messages and a call asking for help from relatives, explaining that his son was “delirious”.
“The investigating judge will request a psychiatric expertise to determine whether the individual was criminally responsible at the time of the act,” concluded the prosecutor.
