The sometimes well-informed Japanese blog Mac Otakara has some things to tell us about the upcoming iPad Air. A new model would be expected this year, with an A15 chip and 5G, but not only.

Completely renewed in 2020, the iPad Air served as the basis for the iPad Mini 6, launched at the end of 2021. This year, it would again be the communicating vessels… but in the opposite direction: according to several Chinese sources, deemed reliable by the Japanese site Mac Otakara, the iPad Air 2022 would take over several technical characteristics of its little brother.

A15 Bionic, 5G, new front camera and new flash?

Like the iPad Mini 6, the next version of the iPad Air would indeed bet on an A15 Bionic processor, but also on 5G connectivity (expected as an option). Apple’s new mid-range tablet would finally have a new ultra-wide-angle front sensor, using 12 Mpx. The Centered Frame function, which allows automatic tracking of your face during video calls, for example, is also anticipated.

At the rear, the main photo sensor would remain alone, but with a new True Tone Quad-LED flash, we read. For the rest, no major aesthetic changes are expected.

Mac Otakara, on the other hand, is planning a presentation of this fifth-generation iPad Air in the spring, potentially at the same time as the third-generation iPhone SE. A plausible niche: as a reminder, Apple is supposed to hold its first event of the year in March or April.
