Toy Story 5: an iconic character back?

Last February, the director and artistic director of Pixar, Pete Docter declared that “Toy Story 5” could well surprise us. According to the latest rumors, an iconic character could be making a comeback.

Announced in February 2023, at the same time as Frozen 3, which could return to sing in our theaters at the end of 2025, Toy Story 5 should surprise us if we are to believe the director and screenwriter Pete Docter, who took the helm of Pixar following the departure of John Lasseter.

Last February, the director of Vice Versa and artistic director of the studio reassured the fans of the franchise started in 1995. He declared at the microphone of The Wrap :

I think that Toy Story 5 will surprise you. There will be quite a few cool things you’ve never seen before. When we made the first Toy Story, we didn’t know we would make a second. We’re just trying to make this movie. But in doing it, he takes you to unexpected places, and that’s what I love about the creative process.”

And one of the surprises could be the return of Andy if we are to believe the recent statements from a source close to Disney. The young owner of Woody and Buzz, who bequeathed his toys to little Bonnie at the end of Toy Story 3, could well return as an adult.

Will Andy find his toys? Will he give them to his children? It is still unclear what the story of the fifth installment will be and how the writers will bring together the heroes who had said goodbye in Toy Story 4.

As a reminder, at the end of Josh Cooley’s film released in 2019, Woody decides to stay free and live alongside the Shepherdess while Buzz and the other toys return to Bonnie’s room.

When the project was announced, Disney assured that Tom Hanks and Tim Allen would take over the respective voices of the cowboy and the space ranger. According to The DisInsiderAnnie Potts (the Shepherdess), Joan Cusack (Jessie), Wallace Shawn (Rex), Bonnie Hunt (Dolly), Tony Hale (Fork) and John Ratzenberger (Bayonne) should also reprise their roles.

No release date has yet been announced and with the writers’ strike still going on in Hollywood, it’s highly likely that the film will be delayed.
