Toyota Yaris 130: a boost and some improvements

With more than 10 million units sold since its release, the Toyota Yaris is one of the most popular vehicles on the market, particularly in the B segment. While this segment includes versatile city cars, it is also extremely competitive. To stay up to date, Toyota is enriching its Yaris with a new 130 hp “self-rechargeable” hybrid engine.

The new transaxle assembly incorporates a larger, more powerful electric motor-generator and an improved power control unit (PCU). The total power of the system increases by 12%, from 116 to 130 hp. The torque increases by 30%, going from 141 to 185 Nm. The performance is improved, with a 0 to 100 km/h shot in 9.2 s and times that evolve for an 80 to 120 km/h in 7.5 sec.

On the outside, no change, with the exception, depending on the finishes, of new alloy wheels. The upholstery of the seats has a new pattern. New paint colors will also be available.

In the passenger compartment, the Yaris 130 integrates the new Toyota Smart Connect system with, again depending on the finish, a new 12.3-inch instrumentation screen and a 10-inch multimedia touch screen. The interface is supposed to be more intuitive, responsive, and offers cloud-based navigation as standard. OTA updates are also included, as is the integration of wireless smartphones using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which remains wired.

Availability and pricing of the new Toyota Yaris 130hp will be announced at a later date.
