Hero wants to cut over 50 jobs in jam packaging in Lenzburg, the cantonal Department of Economic Affairs and Interior (DVI) confirmed to the sda ​​agency on Wednesday. The Aargau government council and the Lenzburg city council were actively informed by Hero.

A total of 55 employees are affected, Hero writes to the media. If more than ten percent of the workforce could lose their jobs at this size, this is considered a mass layoff and requires a consultation process. “In order not to jeopardize the ongoing consultation phase, no further comments will be made,” Hero continues.

  • Hero has been a brand since 1910 and stands for the abbreviation of the names Heynckell & Roth. Gustav Henckell and Gustav Zeiler founded the company, and Carl Roth became a partner in the company in 1889.
  • In 2022, Hero generated sales of around 1.2 billion Swiss francs and profits were around 27 million francs.
  • Hero Switzerland is one of the Hero group. In 1995, the German entrepreneur Arend Oetker acquired the majority of the shares. The Oetker family still owns the majority of shares in the Hero Group today.
  • The company now has several business areas, the main ones being: fruit products, baby food and muesli bars.
  • Today the Hero Group employs around 4000 employees in 19 countries. Around 160 of them work for Hero Switzerland.
  • Since 2011, the Hero company premises are no longer at Lenzburg train station, but in a new building on the outskirts of the town.

Hero became famous with canned ravioli and later with jam. Founded in Lenzburg in 1886, the company has its headquarters here. The Hero Group has been led by Dutch CEO Rob Versloot since 2012.
