Trailer: Eddie Murphy returns in Beverly Hills Cop 4 on Netflix! 30 years later, Axel Foley is still in good shape

Eddie Murphy makes his comeback in the role of Axel Foley, with the release of the film “Beverly Hills Cop 4” soon on Netflix!

In the 1980s, several sagas left their mark on the minds of action cinema fans. And among these licenses, there is no doubt that that of Beverly Hills Cop occupied a very special place in the hearts of moviegoers of that era.

The trilogy that confirmed Eddie Murphy’s superstar status features a cop from the city of Detroit, propelled into the streets of the chic Beverly Hills neighborhood for the purposes of an investigation. A non-conformist and casual cop, Axel Foley becomes the worst nightmare of the criminals he pursues… but also that of his superiors!

A clever mix of humor and action, the Beverly Hills Cop trilogy is also remembered for its unforgettable main theme Axel F (composed by Harold Faltermeyer). Note that prestigious directors have worked on the franchise, since the second part is directed by the late Tony Scott, while John Landis directed the third.

A (very) long genesis

The production of this fourth episode was started in the early 2000s. After numerous rewrites, it was announced in 2006 that Brett Ratner would direct the film which would regain the darker atmosphere of the very first opus.

But the project struggled to come to fruition, to the point that a few years later a series pilot centered on Axel Foley’s son was shot but did not convince the CBS channel despite the winking appearance of Eddie Murphy.

This new failure revives the idea of a fourth part at the cinema, and in 2016 the Belgian directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys For Life) were announced to direct the feature film.

The two filmmakers ultimately left the project to devote themselves to directing Batgirl. A bad choice, since the DC Comics TV film which was nevertheless entirely shot will never be broadcast, due to a judged result “unwatchable” by the leaders of the Max platform.

Shortly after filming the sequel to his cult comedy A Prince in New York, Eddie Murphy announced the imminent production of Beverly Hills Cop 4, the broadcast rights of which have been acquired by Netflix. Filming finally begins in August 2022, under the direction of director Mark Molloy.

Netflix

The fine Beverly Hills Cop team is reunited!

The trailer revealed today by the platform confirms the return to the darkness of the first film, although the humorous aspect of the saga is also present. In addition to Eddie Murphy, old faces well known to fans of the saga return, such as Judge Reinhold (Billy Rosewood), John Ashton (John Taggart) and Bronson Pinchot (Serge).

Thirty years after the release of Beverly Hills Cop 3, Eddie Murphy – now 62 years old – seems to have lost none of his charisma or energy. But we will still have to wait a few months before discovering this Beverly Hills Cop 4, expected exclusively on Netflix for the summer of 2024.
