Officially, he is not yet back in the election campaign. But the former US President Donald Trump (75) visibly enjoyed the bath in the crowd on Saturday: Trump made his first big appearance in the open air since he had to leave the White House in January.
Thousands of fans filled the Wellington, Ohio arena. Some wore T-shirts that said “Trump 2024” and “Trump is my President”. There was a problem with the technology. No huge screen showed the speech oversized and live. Numerous supporters left the event prematurely and frustrated because they did not hear about Trump’s speech.
It has not yet been campaigned on his own account – Trump is still keeping a low profile about a 2024 candidacy. In Ohio he threw himself into the stuff for the loyal Republican Max Miller. He is supposed to replace the “traitor and fake Republican” Anthony Gonzales (36) in the US House of Representatives. In other respects, too, Trump has the congressional and Senate elections in his sights in 2022, but is hesitating to make further recommendations. First it has to be made clear who is behind him as party leader. And who doesn’t.
Trump is looking for a team for 2024
Even after a long break, Trump did not manage to concentrate on one topic any longer in the tried and tested manner. “Tanned, rested and politically bloodthirsty”, according to the US political portal “Politico”, teased Trump about political enemies, brought up a long list of complaints and raved about his time in the Oval Office. He thanked a number of conservative party celebrities who continued to support him in the conspiracy theories about the allegedly stolen 2020 election.
Trump did not leave the administration of the government around President Joe Biden (78) good. But it seems more important to him to look at the nomination process of his own party with a view to 2024. In a kind of pre-selection process, Trump’s advisory team looks for suitable people who are absolutely uncritical behind the ex-president. Then a steep career beckons – or the end of all ambitions.
Then Republican MP Marjorie Taylor Greene (47, Georgia) cheered the crowds on. “Let me ask a question – who’s the president?” Greene called into the crowd. «Trump! Trump! Trump! ”It chanted like a throat. (kes)
