Tsudoi Miyazaki, 25-year-old Japanese Olympic champion, killed in France

The 25-year-old sportswoman was in Saint-Cyr-en-Val, Loiret, when she died after a fall in training, as revealed by the prosecutor of the Republic of Orleans, Emmanuelle Bochenek- Pure. If his name was not revealed by the prosecution, the International Triathlon Federation revealed it the day after the tragedy. This is the Japanese Tsudoi Miyazaki, who was training in France after having run a World Cup event in Spain. “The International Triathlon Union and the Japan Triathlon Union send their deepest condolences to Ms. Miyazaki’s family, friends, coaches and teammates,” announced the federation.

“The thoughts of the entire Triathlon family are with you all at this terrible time”, added the federation. According to initial findings, the triathlete was riding with two other national team cyclists when she “suddenly fell, swerving to the opposite lane”, where there was a car. After the death of Tsudoi Miyazaki, the prosecution decided to open an investigation for manslaughter and an autopsy will be performed. The gendarmerie will try to determine the circumstances of the tragedy. “The first screenings carried out on the driver of the vehicle involved, a man of German nationality residing in France, are negative”, said Emmanuelle Bochenek-Puren. The two cyclists and the occupants of the vehicle were taken care of by the firefighters.

Tsudoi Miyazaki had a great career ahead of her

“Regarding the circumstances of the accident, local authorities are investigating and our local staff members are working on this tragedy. The Federation immediately dispatched staff members to France to join the training base personnel to take charge of the situation”said the International Triathlon Federation. Born in 1996 in Toyama City, Japan, Tsudoi Miyazaki began her triathlon career in collegewinning the Japan Under-23 Triathlon Championships in 2019. For several months, she had been training hard for the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
