Caroline Binder (Martina Gedeck) has a nice home, a functioning marriage and a chronically ill heart. Heart specialist Paul Hoffmann (Anton Noori) promises to cure his patient through a new surgical method – and he keeps his promise. Caroline can get well and live a normal life; then everyone would be happy – except for Caroline herself. Even worse: she neither wants her healthy heart, nor does she want her new life.

Nadine Ullrich is found killed in a park. The young woman was an assistant to the renowned Cologne psychotherapist Jörg Korfmann (Peter Jordan). Determine Brand (Mariele Millowitsch) and Simmel (Hinnerk Schönemann). They find out that the victim is said to have had trouble with his boss. When Brand and Simmel appeared at Korfmann, he was treating patient Detlef Stelzer. When Stelzer hears that Nadine Ullrich was murdered, he flees. Stelzer, who has been convicted of violence, is considered extremely dangerous.

2035: Gangster James Cole (Bruce Willis) is transported back in time in 1996 to find a virus that has destroyed almost all of humanity. Nobody believes him and so he is admitted to a mental hospital. Cole slowly succeeds in convincing his doctor Kathryn (Madeleine Stowe) of his assignment. The two are now trying hard to stop the impending epidemic.
