Two jobs in two countries?: Schult has three ideas for what comes after Wolfsburg

Two jobs in two countries?
Schult has three ideas for what comes after Wolfsburg

VfL Wolfsburg loses a club legend. Almuth Schult leaves the club after almost ten years, but the goalkeeper is (still) silent about her future. The 30-year-old has many options, moving to the United States is an option. A commitment there could even be combined with a second job.

Champions League triumph in 2014, five championships, seven cup wins: Almuth Schult has won everything there is to win with VfL Wolfsburg. But after almost ten years, the national goalkeeper is leaving the Bundesliga leaders in the summer. career end? Moving to the US? Job as a TV expert? Many doors are open to Schult, and her future remains uncertain.

“I’m lucky that I have a lot of options,” said Schult just over a week ago in the “kicker” podcast “Female view on football”. The result of family talks was that there was a solution A, “which we prefer. If that doesn’t work, we still have B and C,” says Schult. But nothing is ready to say yet.

It is now clear that the 30-year-old mother of twins has rejected the contract offer from VfL Wolfsburg and will not extend her expiring contract. “It was a very difficult decision because I know what I have at this club,” said Schult, who switched to the Wolves in 2013 from the then Bundesliga club SC 07 Bad Neuenahr.

Commitment to the USA would even offer time as a TV expert

At the men’s European Championship last year, Schult attracted attention as a TV expert for ARD and received a lot of praise. There is speculation about a renewed engagement at the World Cup in Qatar in winter, but a move to the NWSL is also in the air. Her good friend Nadine Angerer is already working as a goalkeeping coach at Portland Thorns FC in the USA. Since the season starts there in March and ends in October, she would even have room for a TV appearance in Qatar.

But until the 2016 Olympic champion comments on her future, everything remains speculation. “I don’t want to say goodbye in the middle of the season, there’s time for that in the summer,” said Schult, who is still pursuing big sporting goals with VfL. She also has the European Championships in England in the back of her mind and is currently fighting for a place in the DFB goal. “I’ll do my best to be there,” said Schult. After that, at the latest, it will become clear what is behind solution A, B or C.
