There was a tragic accident on the Aare between Winznau and Olten on Tuesday.
ask · A 93-year-old man fell into the Aare with his electric vehicle between Winznau and Olten early Tuesday afternoon. This was announced by the Solothurn cantonal police. Two workers who witnessed the incident tried to rush to the man’s aid, one of whom got into distress in the water.
The pensioner was rescued shortly thereafter, but he died on the spot despite the immediate resuscitation measures. The missing worker was recovered after an extensive search by the maritime police. However, any help came too late for him.
According to the police, the pensioner was traveling with his wife. Since construction machinery was parked on the bank path, he wanted to bypass it. The electric vehicle got into trouble and fell into the Aare together with the 93-year-old.
