Two police officers shot dead – perpetrators fleeing


IOn the night of Monday, two police officers were killed by shots during a traffic check in the Kusel district in the Palatinate. This was announced by the police in Kaiserslautern. The background to what happened is still unclear.

According to police, the two officers, a 24-year-old officer and her 29-year-old colleague, were on a routine patrol. At around 4:20 a.m., the two young police officers were shot dead during a traffic stop. As a police spokesman for the FAZ said, the police officers radioed that shots had been fired.

The police are now searching at high pressure for the fleeing perpetrators and are busy securing clues at the crime scene. There is no description of the perpetrators or the getaway vehicle used. The direction of escape is also unknown. The police have also expanded their search to neighboring Saarland, they announced on Monday morning. According to information from the FAZ, several perpetrators can be assumed. At least one suspect is armed.

The police also asks the population not to pick up hitchhikers in the Kusel district. District Road 22 is completely closed in the Mayweilerhof and Ulmet areas.
