Ubisoft is starting to sort through its catalog, but we thought it would stop at online services. We have to believe that it goes much further. After having effectively announced that about fifteen games were going to see their online services amputated, to save resources in order to place them towards other more recent games, we discover that the publisher plans to remove some games from Steam.
A controversial departure from Steam
This afternoon, Internet users were able to discover that the Steam page ofAssassin’s Creed Liberation HD had been modified, with a mention which indicated that the game would no longer be accessible at all from September 1, knowing that it is already withdrawn from sale. Following this, the game was entitled to its little review-bombing, until we learned that other games like Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Splinter Cell Blacklist were also affected by this treatment.
With such statements, it was expected that the games would no longer be playable at alleven solo and even having bought them, especially after the first update from Ubisoft about this story:
“ We do not take the decision to retire services from older Ubisoft games lightly, and our teams are currently evaluating all options available to players who will be impacted when the online services for these games are retired on September 1, 2022. We are also working with our partners to update this information on all store pages, so that players are fully informed of the removal of online services as well as via our article where we shared this news. »
Ubisoft struggles to make itself understood
Except that ultimately, there seems to be a slight misunderstanding here. These games will remain playable and can even be redownloaded if you already own them.as claimed by IGN, which received another response from Ubisoft:
” As stated in our support article, only DLC and online features will be affected by the upcoming teardown. Current owners of these games will still be able to access, play or re-download them. »
A communication which therefore had difficulty in being heard, and which is ultimately only the logical consequence of the closure of the servers of the games in question. Even if it remains a shame for your DLC, rest assured, you will still be able to play these games solo on Steam after September 1st.
