LVIV, Ukraine (Reuters) – An agreement has been reached between Russians and Ukrainians for the establishment of eight humanitarian corridors allowing the evacuation of civilians from Ukrainian cities besieged by Russian troops but the city of Mariupol is not concerned, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk announced on Monday.

Efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to this strategic port in southeastern Ukraine on the Sea of Azov remain unsuccessful, she added.

Mariupol is one of the cities that has suffered the most violent bombardments since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24. The majority of the city’s 400,000 inhabitants have been trapped for several weeks without water, food or electricity.
