WASHINGTON, December 31 (Reuters) – US President Joe Biden will hold talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Zelensky on Sunday, a White House official said on Friday, the day after his meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in which the situation the Ukrainian border has been mentioned.

Joe Biden will reaffirm his support for Ukraine and discuss the deployment by Russia of tens of thousands of troops on the Ukrainian border, added the US representative.

Washington and Moscow warned each other on Thursday about Ukraine but showed some optimism that diplomatic talks scheduled for January would help ease tensions.

American and Russian representatives are due to take part on January 10 in discussions on the military activities of their respective countries and the situation in Ukraine, before a meeting on January 12 between Russia and NATO, and a conference bringing together Moscow, Washington and the United States. other European countries on January 13.
