(Reuters) – The deputy governor of the Kherson region said on Friday that Russian authorities had imposed a curfew in the regional capital before backtracking on his statements.

In a video message posted on Telegram, Russian-installed Deputy Governor Kirill Stremousov said a curfew had been imposed day and night due to a possible Ukrainian attack.

However, he posted another video message an hour later in which he explained that no restrictions had been imposed, before posting an edited version of his first video in which any reference to a curfew had been removed.

The reasons for which Kirill Stremoussov reconsidered his statements were not immediately known. Reuters was unable to verify whether or not a curfew had been put in place in Kherson.
