Ukraine: De-escalation must go through firm and credible warnings to Russia, says Macron


PARIS (Reuters) – French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday that a de-escalation of tensions over Ukraine must pass through the expression of firm and credible warnings to Russia, the Elyse said. in a press release.

This de-escalation “requires constant coordination between European partners and allies; and (must go through) enhanced dialogue with Russia”, he added.

The French president participated Monday evening in a videoconference organized by American President Joe Biden, alongside European leaders and the Secretary General of NATO.

Emmanuel Macron will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky in the coming days, the statement said.

Normandy format discussions between political advisers from France, Russia, Ukraine and Germany will take place on Wednesday in Paris on the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
