Ukraine on the menu of a Beijing-Paris telephone interview


The head of French diplomacy Catherine Colonna and her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi spoke on Tuesday, November 1 during a telephone call about cooperation between the two countries and the conflict in Ukraine, the two parties said.

During this meeting, the Chinese Minister “said that China and France should jointly plan and design high-level exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two countries, so as to open up new prospects for bilateral relations”according to a report published by the New China agency.

Catherine Colonna for her part hailed a “constructive talk”on his Twitter account, assuring: “our bilateral exchanges will intensify”. “We must act in concert to seek to end the Russian escalation in Ukraine and to obtain that North Korea respects its obligations”, she added. The report on the Chinese side also indicates that “the two sides exchanged views on Ukraine, the situation on the Korean Peninsula and other issues of common concern”without further details.

This interview comes ten days after the reappointment of Xi Jinping for a third five-year term at the head of the Communist Party (CCP), and therefore of the country. “The Congress (of the CCP) has drawn up a master plan for the future development of China, bringing important certainties in an unstable world,” Wang Yi assured his counterpart, according to New China.
