KYIV, June 18 (Reuters) – Volodimir Zelensky visited Mykolav, a strategic city in southern Ukraine where the Russian advance towards Odessa was halted at the start of the war, the Ukrainian presidency said on Saturday. without specifying when this visit took place.

“The president inspected the seat of the regional administration of Mykolav which had been destroyed by a missile attack from the Russian forces”, indicated the services of Volodimir Zelensky in a press release.

The Russian army had arrived at the gates of Mykolav at the start of the invasion of Ukraine, at the beginning of March, before being pushed back a few tens of kilometers from the city, where fighting is still raging while the Ukrainian army has launched a counter-offensive towards the city of Kherson.

According to the presidency, which broadcast images of Volodimir Zelensky walking in the streets of the city still regularly bombarded by Russia, the head of state also went to a hospital in Mykolav and awarded the medal of courage to the mayor of the city, Oleksandr Senkevych, and to the governor of the region, Vitaly Kim.
