The Ukrainian Air Force announced that it had shot down 21 explosive drones and two missiles launched by Russia on Wednesday. Ukrainian authorities accuse the Russians of preparing a campaign of strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure in the middle of winter, like last year.

The Ukrainian Air Force announced Wednesday that it had shot down 21 explosive drones and two missiles during nighttime air attacks launched by Russia across the country. “In total, the strikes involved 21 Shahed-136/131 drones and three X-59 missiles,” she said on social media, claiming to have downed all the drones and two of the missiles.

The debris caused no damage

Ukrainian authorities accuse Russia of preparing a campaign of systematic strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure in the middle of winter, as it did last year. The Ukrainian Air Force said it used combat aircraft, anti-aircraft units and mobile anti-aircraft defense units in the southern and central regions of Ukraine. The third missile, which was not shot down, did not hit its target, she assured.

Russian strikes last winter against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure forced long periods without power or heat on millions of residents. On the Russian side, Moscow City Hall indicated that a Ukrainian drone had been shot down over the capital on Wednesday, indicating that no one had been injured and that the debris from the aircraft had caused no damage.
