KYIV (Reuters) – Ukraine has seized assets worth more than 2.1 billion hryvnias (about 70 million euros) belonging to Russian national oil company Rosneft, gas company Gazprom and the nuclear energy company Rosatom, the Ukrainian State Security Service (SBU) announced on Friday.

The SBU said in a statement that Russia used part of the profits from these assets to prepare for its invasion of Ukraine and fund sabotage and intelligence activities.

Rosneft and Gazprom did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment. Rosatom declined to comment. The Kremlin did not immediately comment on the SBU statement.

Ukraine says reconstruction after the invasion could cost $750 billion (738.41 billion euros) and wealthy Russians should help foot the bill.

By the end of June, Ukraine had seized assets worth 31 billion hryvnias from Russian individuals and companies it accuses of being complicit in the war. Previous seizures have included Russian oil company Tatneft and Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman.

The SBU said it was working with police, under the direction of prosecutors, to identify Russian-controlled companies.

He said attempts had been made to transfer seized assets belonging to Rosneft, Gazprom and Rosatom to other owners, but had been blocked.
