The UN budget includes political, legal and regional cooperation for better local human rights. The blue helmet peace missions are financed by a separate budget of around six billion dollars annually. Negotiations on this will begin in May 2022.
The German ambassador to the United Nations, Antje Leendertse, welcomed the acceptance of the budget. “This ensures the negotiating capacity of the United Nations,” she said. “It is now the duty of all member states to make their contributions to the 2022 budget available as quickly as possible.”
The budget is slightly below the 3.2 billion dollars in the previous year, which the administration of former US President Donald Trump and Israel rejected as a symbolic gesture without consequences for the general vote.
